Pittsburgh Knows: Biden Agenda Has Failed

Joe Biden will be in Pittsburgh today to try to make the case that his first year in office has been a success, and that his policies are the right path forward for this country. But the only thing Pennsylvanians deserve to hear from Joe Biden is an apology.

Mr. Biden’s visit today underscores why we need new leadership in Washington to put a stop to his disastrous agenda and hold the Washington establishment accountable for their failures. Mr. Biden inherited a historically secure border, a remarkable economic recovery, low gas prices, hard-won energy independence and a manufacturing renaissance from President Donald Trump — and he managed to squander it all in a matter of months.

The White House says that Mr. Biden is coming to our city to “discuss strengthening the nation’s supply chains, revitalizing American manufacturing, creating good-paying, union jobs, and building a better America.”

The truth is that Mr. Biden is coming to double down on his failed agenda that has decimated Pennsylvania’s economy and hurt working families. But the truth is that it was the policies of Mr. Trump that set America on a sure path to reaching all of these goals.

But Mr. Biden has undermined these policies, and our gains, at every turn. It’s time to reverse course.

A good place to start toward that would be ending the Democrats’ war on American energy — an issue that hits close to home for millions of Pennsylvanians. Since taking office, Mr. Biden’s disastrous energy policies, clearly intended to appease radical lawmakers in Congress, have devastated our state’s energy sector and led to skyrocketing energy and gas costs throughout the country.

When the price of energy goes up, so does the price of everything else. The record-high inflation now eating into the wages and savings of working Pennsylvanians is a direct result of Mr. Biden’s reckless spending and energy policies, and ordinary families in our state are feeling the pinch. Despite promising to raise taxes only on the rich, rising gas prices are effectively a big tax on everyone and everything.

Moreover, how can we possibly count on the Mr. Biden administration to restore domestic supply chains from China when it won’t even stand up to the Chinese Communist Party? Mr. Biden has refused to hold the CCP accountable for its role in allowing COVID-19 to spread to the world, downplayed Chinese human rights abuses and given China a pass for its blatant destruction of the environment.

Of course, Mr. Biden doesn’t want to talk about any of this. Amid a stalled economy, rampant inflation, a border disaster and record-setting waves of murders in cities across the country — not to mention foreign adversaries like Russia and China growing more aggressive by the day — Mr. Biden is coming to Pittsburgh to urge the people of Pennsylvania and the country to stay the course.

But Pennsylvanians know better. They can see every day that things have only gotten worse, not better, under Mr. Biden. We need to turn the ship of state — and of our economy and our communities — around, and it cannot happen soon enough.

That’s why I’m running for the U.S. Senate: to represent the real interests and values of the people of Pennsylvania, and to turn around a country that’s going down the wrong path. We need to restore American energy independence, continue environmental progress and create new jobs with America First policies that will actually bring back manufacturing to the commonwealth.

We need to stand up to China, keep our borders secure and end the left’s assault on our values and American way of life.

The story Joe Biden will tell in Pittsburgh today — of a successful administration and an economic resurgence — will fall on deaf ears. The people of this city and this state know better, and they know it’s time for new leadership in Washington.
